Ask good questions

Ask good questions

Your future depends on your thinking. Questions normally start with the words who, why, when, what, and where. Questions are useful since within the seed of the question resides the answer. Moreover, you achieve your vision and your goals by asking discerning questions. A discerning question is one that goes to the root of the issue, and thereby draws out the truth, or unravels the reality, by exploring differing views.

Frame your questions well. Generally, your first reaction to situations is a negative one. This results from our training that focuses on what is not working, or on what is not right. You look for the exception. You concentrate on the variance, on what is missing, and not on what is present and good. This means that very often your first questions will be negatively directed. You must thus consciously ask a second and third question to get your perspective right through an appropriate positive question.

These simple guidelines create better questions, and lead to better results:

• Let your question begin with “what” or “how” instead of “why”

“when” or “who”

• The question should be personal and so contain the word “I” rather

than ”they” “them” “we” or “you”

• Provide an action step, or be action focused in your question.

These guidelines are intended to make you responsible for what is happening in your life. The “what” or “how” turns your attention inwards, when combined with “I.” The focus on action as opposed to grumbling, or making excuses complete the excellent question. Putting it all together the question becomes ” what can I do? ” You use your talents and brilliance when you act on the answer—you experience your fulfillment!
