Towards
self-mastery
As a human being, you naturally aspire to
achieve
something. You want to be a contribution to
your
environment. You want to be of value to
people
around you. Of course, in the process you
want to
experience joy, happiness, and fulfillment.
However, in order to be effective in giving
to
others and the environment, you have to be
in
control of yourself. To change the world
around
you, for the better, you have to change
yourself,
along the way, for the better. You are a
work in
progress.
What is self-mastery in relation to your
life? This
simply means that you must have balance in,
and
between, the major areas of your life:
finance and
career, relationships, health,
spirituality, and
personal empowerment and recreation. These
are some underlying elements that provide
the
foundation for achieving balance in your
life:
• Your passion for living. The activities
that give
you joy.
• Your commitment to act consistently to
pursue
your passion.
• The continuous proper daily use of 24
hours.
• Filling your mind with worthwhile
information
and wisdom.
• Keeping company with eagles, and not
chickens.
• Keeping your positive and negative
emotions
under control.
• Accept people, and situations, for what
they are,
and you will avoid inner frustration, emotional
turmoil, worries, and depression.
Self-mastery is not about perfectionism,
nor do you
have to be as evolved as Buddha or Jesus to
be
self-mastered. Each of us has his/her own unique
way. Your quest is to be the most excellent
person
that you can be. Optimize
your own uniqueness!
You have the internal capacity to achieve self-mastery.
